Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
At Easter, we celebrate the central mystery of our faith: our redemption through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This paschal mystery is the good news that we are all called to share!
Our education and formation ministries are an essential vehicle for announcing this good news. Because of the crucial role that these ministries play in the life of our Church, we have dedicated this time of year to invite parishioners to support education and formation in the Church through the mission of the Catholic Education Foundation, Inc.
Some parishes are taking up a collection on Easter Sunday weekend, and some parishes are participating in a letter campaign from the Catholic Education Foundation to each household. Beginning next year, all parishioners will receive a direct invitation from the Foundation for support as the Easter Collection ends in 2016.
The Foundation and the Archdiocese have collaborated on new efforts this year to double the amount of tuition assistance (see http://www.archlou.org/schoolplan), and much of the proceeds of the Collection will be used to award tuition assistance grants to Catholic school families in need. The balance of the funds collected will support efforts of our parishes and schools to fund new initiatives in religious education, professional development opportunities for teachers and catechists, and technology upgrades.
Founded in 1996, the Catholic Education Foundation of Louisville is an independent organization that supports Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Louisville. During the past 16 years, the Catholic Education Foundation has awarded more than $19 million in grants to families, parishes, and schools for the worthy purposes described above.
Please respond generously this spring and help support the education and formation ministries of our local Church as we proclaim his glorious message of salvation in Jesus Christ!
Sincerely yours in our Lord,
Most Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D.
Archbishop of Louisville
