SCN Anna Jeanne Hardesty, 90, dies Jan. 31

Sister of Charity of Nazareth Anna Jeanne Hardesty died Jan 31. at Nazareth Home.

Sister Hardesty, a native of Whitesville, Ky., was 90 and had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 73 years.

For 69 years, Sister Hardesty served in child care; elementary education as a teacher, principal and administrator; and in pastoral, social justice and volunteer ministry in Tennessee, Maryland, Kentucky, Arkansas and Louisiana.

In the Archdiocese of Louisville, Sister Hardesty served in child care at St. Thomas-St. Vincent Home from 1978 to 1982. She also served as a coordinator of community service at Nazareth Home from 1982 to 1985. She had served in the apostolate of prayer since October 2010.

Sister Hardesty is survived by seven sisters: Evelyn Hagan and Theresa Wedding of Whitesville, Ky.; Rita Wink of Utica, Ky.; Virgilia Marie Crowe of Owensboro, Ky., Lillian Dreiman of Oaktown, Ind., Norma Jean Crowe and Rose Cecilia Knott of Columbia City, Ind., and her religious community.

Visitation will take place after 4 p.m. today, Feb. 2, in St. Vincent Church in Nazareth, Ky., followed by a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Feb. 3 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent Church. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery.
