Passionist Father Bernard Weber, 72, died suddenly on Sept. 20 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital. Father Weber, known around the Archdiocese of Louisville as Father Bernie, professed vows as a Passionist in 1976 and was ordained a priest in 1981.

Father Weber was a native of Chicago who grew up in California and taught high school math before entering religious life.

As a Passionist, he has served as an itinerant missionary, presenting parish missions and retreats. In the Archdiocese of Louisville, he regularly led parish missions, presided at reconciliation services and celebrated healing Masses. He also served as a pastor in Alabama, as a prison minister, as a spiritual director and counselor and as a foreign missionary with the Passionists in India.

He is survived by his sister, Rosemary Morris, a brother Bill Weber and his Passionist community.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Sept. 24 at St. Agnes Church. Burial will follow in the Passionist Cemetery.

A vigil will be held on Sept. 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Agnes. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m.
