Kindergarten Countdown, a series of events for students entering kindergarten, will be hosted at various locations in Louisville this summer. Children entering kindergarten will receive a free Kindergarten Countdown T-shirt and book. One child and an accompanying adult will be admitted to each event at no charge. Stop by any Louisville Free Public Library June 1 or after to register.
The first event will be June 7 at 10 a.m. at the Louisville Free Public Library, 301 York Street, and will feature StageOne Family Theatre.
- Samuel Bibelhauser and Stephen Kinny, both seniors at St. Xavier High School, have been awarded National Merit Scholarships sponsored by the University of Louisville.
- John Fultz (St. Xavier), Amy Teta (Sacred Heart Academy), Frederick Weitendorf (St. Xavier) and Ian Scott (St. Xavier) were recognized as National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners.
Students at Holy Angels Academy earned numerous awards on the recent National Latin Exam. Freshman Mary Stockton and sophomore Peter Bifone earned silver maxima cum laude.
Freshman Austin Kramer and John Klapheke and junior Emma Pereida earned magna cum laude. And freshman Tatiana Miller and sophomore Jesse Neal earned cum laude.
Letters of intent
- Eight St. Xavier High School seniors signed letters of intent to play college athletics. They are:
Daniel Santos (cross country), Marian University; Ben Metzger (cross country), Miami University; Max Mudd (cross country), New York University; Sam Lukens (soccer), Centre College; Wes Luvisi (soccer), Belmont University; Joe Workman (soccer), Bellarmine University; Paxton Duff (golf), Centre College; and Stephen Gray (track, football), Union College.
- Two Trinity High School seniors signed national letters of intent to play college athletics. Signing on May 8 were Nick Eckert, who will run cross country/track at Lee University, and Brady Pfaadt, who will play baseball at Bellarmine University.
Nick Eckert and David Mulhall, seniors at Trinity High School and members of the school’s online ECHO newspaper, were honored at the annual Louisville Catholic Sports Network Awards Night May 13.
Mulhall was recognized as the winner of the Publisher’s Press/Billy Reed Sports Journalism Award for Photography and received $500. Eckert received the Mulloy Properties Community Service Award.
