Swimming state

  • St. Xavier High School won its 26th straight KHSAA state championship in swimming and diving.
    This is the school’s 50th title overall, which is a national record. This state championship caps off the program’s fourth undefeated season and a 54-0 record during the last four years.
    First team All-State honors were awarded to Heyward Harrison, Jacob Smith and Noah Johnston.
  • Sacred Heart Academy’s swimming and diving team captured its 25th state title March 1.
    The school held a pep rally for the championship team where the team presented the trophy to principal Mary Lee McCoy.
    This is the school’s fourth title in five years. Sacred Heart won 10 out of 12 events. The team set records in the following events: 200-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle.

Player of the year

Sam Stockton, a senior at Trinity High School, has been named the 2013-14 Gatorade Kentucky Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
A Trinity soccer player has won the award three of the last five years. Lepe Seetane (class of 2010) was named the 2009-10 Gatorade Kentucky Boys Soccer Player of the Year and Chris Hubbard (class of 2013) received the award for 2012-13. The award recognizes outstanding athletic skill, academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, a news release from Gatorade said. Stockton is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year to be announced in May.

Scholastic art

Students at Assumption High School won several awards in the Scholastic Art Competition, which was established in 1923 to encourage and recognize student achievement in the creative arts.
Gold Key winners were: Carroll Sandman and Olivia Vanegas. Their art works will be judged at the national level in New York City this spring.
Silver Key winners were: Hollie Collins and Katelyn Zinsmeister.

College signing

Trinity High School senior Will Washle has committed to play football for Centre College.

Art award

Molly Steiner, a senior at Sacred Heart Academy, won the Louisville Area Fiber and Textile Artists Association (LAFTA) Emerging Fiber and Textile Artist Award for her beaded art work.
Steiner’s piece also was recognized by the Scholastic Art Competition and is being judged at the national level.

German exam

Students at St. Xavier were recognized for their scores on the National German exam administered by the American Association of Teachers of German.
Two students, Brian Ford and Gabriel Turner, received Gold Awards for scoring in the 90th percentile or higher. These young men are eligible to compete further for an opportunity to travel to Germany this summer.
Silver Awards were earned by Kevin Reilly, Dillon Spencer and Peyton Raley. Bronze Awards were given to Will Marx, Aaron Holzclaw, Joseph Kaninberg, Michael Turner, Patrick Grohmann and Brandon Naber.

The Assumption High School Beta Club hosted a Senior Citizen Prom at the school March 8. The free event featured 1950s rock-n-roll music by Bob Holt and the Primetime Band.

Prom for seniors citizens

Assumption High School’s Beta Club hosted a prom for local senior citizens in the school’s cafeteria March 8.
Approximately 85 Beta club members participated in preparation, set-up, hosting and cleanup of the prom.
The free event featured 1950s rock-n-roll music by Bob Holt and the Primetime Band, appetizers and decorations.
