Benedictine men and women plan a pilgrimage for youth

The two Benedictine communities in Southern Indiana — the men’s St. Meinrad Archabbey and the women’s Monastery Immaculate Conception — are sponsoring a youth pilgrimage on Oct. 19.

Members of parish youth or college campus ministries and individuals are invited to join in the Benedictine Hills Youth Pilgrimage that begins at noon Central Daylight Time at St. Meinrad’s Archabbey Church in St. Meinrad, Ind.

The pilgrims will join in a brief prayer and then will walk six miles along country roads to Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, Ind.
The group will arrive at the monastery in time for vespers at 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Vespers will be followed by a cookout with members of both monastic communities.

Sisters from the monastery are a part of the Archdiocese of Louisville’s Vocation Office’s Planting Seeds team. And St. Meinrad Seminary and University is home to seminarians studying to be priests of the Archdiocese of Louisville.

The cost is $7 per pilgrim to cover the cost of supper. Participants are asked to bring comfortable shoes, snacks, water, sunscreen and to plan their clothing for the weather. To register, visit http://www.saintmeinrad.org/youth-pilgrimage.
