High School Diplomats Program
St. Xavier High School senior Daniel Varghese has been accepted to participate in the 2012 High School Diplomats (HSD) Program, which is being held July 31 to August 11. The HSD Program brings together 40 American and 40 Japanese students for a 10-day cultural enrichment experience at Princeton University. The program is sponsored each summer by the AIU Insurance Company of Tokyo, along with the Freeman Foundation. During the program each American student is paired with a Japanese roommate.
A news release from the HSD Program says it is designed to provide students from American and Japanese cultures with the most informative and engaging cultural exchange possible. In addition to the daily activities, both groups of students attend language classes ranging from beginner to advanced and taught by native speakers. Each student is also given the opportunity to present a unique part of their culture, the release said.
Players of the Year
Michael Ann Humphreys, a senior at Presentation Academy, and Gabrielle Miller, a student at Sacred Heart Academy, have been named the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation’s (KJGF) 2012 Female Players of the Year.
In addition to her runner-up trophy at the Musselman-Dunne Golf Tour Championship July 17, Humphreys was named Female Player of the Year, along with Miller. Humphreys competed in six of the 20 KJGF events, earning her the same amount of points as Miller, who participated in seven. Humphreys finished her KJGF summer with two third place finishes, two second place finishes and two first place finishes.
The Sacred Heart Model School seventh- and eighth-grade field hockey team won the Catholic School Athletic Association (CSAA) City Championship July 12, beating Holy Trinity School 4-0.
